Sara Dover is a Managing Director at Forward Risk. She leads U.S. and international investigations and is based in New York.

Sara has extensive experience in cross-border due diligence, having managed or researched hundreds of background checks all over the world for leading hedge funds, executive search firms, and for activist investors and public companies on both sides of proxy fights.

She also conducts and leads complex investigations for clients like law firms, Fortune 500 companies, and high-net worth individuals. This includes asset tracing, locating difficult-to-find witnesses, investigating social media harassment, identifying conflicts of interest, and nuanced public records research to find facts that either support or dispute claims, and to inform litigation strategy. Sara is an experienced interviewer, and has conducted numerous discreet interviews for high profile matters.

Examples of cases Sara has worked on over the course of her career include:

• digging up questionable investments and claims — as well as a criminal history — of a long-time director of a public company for an activist investor, which played a significant role in ushering the director off the board and bringing in a replacement approved by the activist investor;
• tracing the convoluted asset history of a real estate executive that had been dodging creditors for years, largely by using his family and shell companies to hide properties, to help a client decide whether it would be productive pursue a case against him;
• a multi-year-long investigation to help a manufacturer battle counterfeiters by tracing a criminal operation through Europe and China through public records, undercover test buys, and interviewing suppliers, which helped the client get favorable judgments in court.

Prior to joining Forward Risk, Sara worked for eight years at the Mintz Group in New York and London, where she led U.S. research and training for an international team. She started her career on the assignment desk for NY1 News, the local TV news station in New York City, and also worked as an web editor and reporter on the digital desks of CBS News and NBC News. While at New York University, Sara was a news editor for the student-run newspaper and was an investigative research intern at the Village Voice.
